Koble Constructions drills bored piers, post holes, and stump holes for residential and commercial construction across Melbourne and Victoria. 350mm, 450mm, and 600mm augers — and rock core barrels for challenging substrates.
Bored piers — concrete foundations drilled into the ground using an auger and filled with reinforced concrete — remain one of the most widely used foundation systems in Melbourne residential and commercial construction. For sites where screw piles are not specified or appropriate, or where a designer has specified concrete piers, bored piers provide reliable, well-understood foundation performance across a wide range of soil conditions.
Koble Constructions drills bored piers and auger holes for residential and commercial construction across Melbourne and Victoria, using 10-ton and 6-ton excavators fitted with high-quality Australian-made auger and core barrel attachments. We drill the full range of residential and commercial pier diameters and can handle rock and hard substrates with our core barrel attachments.
Some Melbourne sites — particularly in the inner western suburbs where basalt is common, and in areas with shallow rock interfaces — present drilling challenges that a standard auger cannot overcome. Koble Constructions‘s Australian-made core barrel attachments are designed for exactly these situations, drilling through hard rock, concrete, and other challenging substrates where conventional auger drilling is not practical.
Core barrel sizes match our auger range:
If your soil report indicates rock at shallow depth, or if previous drilling attempts on your site have encountered rock, Koble Constructions‘s core barrel capability means the job can still be done efficiently and accurately.
Koble Constructions operates a range of auger diameters to match the requirements of your specific project. Pier diameter is specified by your structural engineer based on the required load capacity and soil conditions:
If your engineer has specified a diameter outside these standard sizes, contact Koble Constructions to discuss whether we can accommodate the requirement or recommend an alternative solution.
Plans and specification review
We review your structural engineer’s pier schedule — diameters, depths, and positions — and confirm our equipment is appropriate for the substrate conditions identified in the soil report.
Site setup and access
Equipment is mobilised to site and set up safely. Dial Before You Dig is confirmed and any underground services near drilling locations are potholed before drilling commences.
Drilling
Piers are drilled to the specified diameter and depth using the appropriate auger or core barrel. Drilling depths are recorded at each pier location.
Handover for concrete
Completed pier holes are handed over for steel fixing and concrete pour by the builder. Drilling records are provided and we coordinate with the concreting team for efficient sequencing.
Both bored piers and screw piles are used extensively for residential and commercial foundations in Melbourne. The right choice depends on your engineer’s specification, your site conditions, and the practical circumstances of your project:
Koble Constructions provides both systems and can advise on the practical differences from a contractor’s perspective — but the specification decision belongs with your structural engineer.
Koble Constructions drills bored piers and auger holes across Melbourne Metro, Greater Melbourne, regional Victoria, and the Mornington Peninsula. Our 10-ton and 6-ton excavators are well-maintained and capable across the full range of residential and commercial drilling applications.
